Laurel Woods Trail (identified by the red area in the
above map) is located in the former Phelps
property bounded by residential land use to the north, east,
and south, and the White Clay Creek to the west. Access to the trail is provided by a public right-of-way
connecting to Laurel Heights Road in the north-eastern corner of the property. Penn Green Road separates
the wooded hillside to the east and creek valley to the west. The length of Laurel Woods Trail is approximately
5,100 feet with an elevation climb of about 100 feet. Mountain laurel, native holly trees and native flowers are
seen from the trail. At the southern end a man-made cut from an abandoned railroad can be viewed. Future
trails are planned both for the west side of Penn Green road and in the former Szymanski property employing
pedestrian bridges using the existing railroad abutments extending the Laurel Woods Trail north to Franklin
Township and south to London Britain Township via Landenberg. Click the to view
